The Christopher Group was founded in 2014

by a dedicated team with a combined experience of over 50 years in this field of law.

We are a team of professional innovative people who specialize in the development of bespoke credit and litigation funding products to support Attorneys and other role players in the Personal Injury and RAF industry.

We understand the challenges and timelines of the industry and have developed our credit and litigation funding products with the flexibility needed and understood by us. We recognised the need for funding, to pay expert reports and developed a unique credit product and cash flow management system as a solution. The system calculates the value, assits with managing the affordability and tracks the progress of each case.It thereby ensures that the credit extended to each case is affordable and returns the maximum value for our attorney clients.

Founder

Stoffel van Zyl

Since receiving his B. Comm. (Law) and LLB, Stoffel has been working as an attorney in personal injury. He acted as director at Borchardt & Hansen Attorneys before starting his own firm, CP Van Zyl Inc, and has since successfully finalised over 20 000 cases. His firm received the Law Society of the Northern Provinces (Old Transvaal) Award in 2010 for the top fee earner in the province, making him a leading voice in the world of legal finance.

Andries Burger

He completed his honours degree in Transport Economics at Rand University in 1986, before spending two years in the logistics industry with a Barlow Group subsidiary (ICS). Then he spent 29 years in various corporate finance banking roles with Standard Bank, Nedbank, and FNB.

Renier Jacobs

After graduating from the University of Pretoria laden with awards from the law faculty, Renier began practicing as a specialist attorney in the field of medical negligence and personal injury. He has worked with a variety of claims from minor cosmetic surgery injuries, to complex brain damage allegations. He has been involved in all aspects of personal injury litigation including industrial accidents and public liability claims. His experience enables the Christopher Group to provide specialised medico-legal expertise to clients seeking legal financial solutions.

Justin Rookledge

After qualifying as a chartered accountant in 2002, Justin became a senior audit manager where he handled clients such as Cadiz, Mettle, and Control Instruments. He became financial manager at Mettle in 2009, before his appointment as financial director in 2016. Justin joined Christopher Finance in 2021.

Rynard van der Westhuizen

After graduating from the Nelson Mandela University and IMM Graduate School of Marketing, Rynard started his career at Courage Breweries in London, before stepping into his role at SFW Gilbey's as marketing manager on Bell's Whisky. At Brandhouse (Diageo), he was appointed as brown spirits manager, working on brands such as Johnnie Walker, Classic malts range and J&B. This resulted in his induction as Master of the Quaich for his contribution to the Scotch whisky industry globally in 2011. He has since worked at Cipla Medpro Pharmaceuticals in various directorial roles, as well as at The Marathon Group and as group head of marketing and sales at the Christopher Group.

We realised that unpredictability and the related burden on cash flow are the biggest challenges to attorneys. Our products were designed to provide credit on a case-by-case basis where drawdowns are made as and when it’s necessary to pay reports on that specific case. No interim re-payments are made by the attorney and credit is only repaid when the case is finalised or after the contracted period. This allows for the maximum cash flow benefit.
